BPNI Maharashtra was established as an informal group in 1994 & registered in 1998.
A Non-Profit, Non-Governmental broad-based organization with Pediatricians, Neonatologists, Obstetricians, Public Health Experts, Lactation Consultants, Mother Support Counsellors, Nurses & Breastfeeding Advocates dedicated to promoting maternal & child health through Protection, Promotion & Support of IYCN (Breastfeeding & Complementary feeding, Maternal nutrition) & by improving Newborn & Child care practices.
Background
- Under Five child death (U5MR) remains high in Maharashtra, India & developing countries.
- Younger the child, higher the chances of death.
- Malnutrition is directly or indirectly responsible for 45% of all U5MR.
- Breastfeeding & Complementary feeding can prevent 19% of U5MR.
- Initiation of Breastfeeding within 1 Hour will prevent 22% of newborn deaths.
- Knowledge, Attitude, & Practices (KAP) of Health Care Providers & people at large is not favorable for appropriate IYCN Practices.
- Help provided by Maternity services for successful Breastfeeding is suboptimal.
Objectives
- Promotion & Advancement of the Breastfeeding, Appropriate Complementary Feeding & Allied Sciences.
- Improvement of Public Health by promoting Optimal Breastfeeding & Complementary feeding practices & education.
- The maintenance of the honor & dignity & upholding of interest of the Breastfeeding Promotion & cooperation between members thereof.
- Improvement of Child survival rate (NNMR, IMR, U5MR)
