In order to support breastfeeding, action is required
by national and local government, by health authorities
and health care Trusts, local communities, schools,
businesses, voluntary organisations, family and
individuals. Each and everyone can encourage a
more supportive attitude towards bresatfeeding
within our society.
Remember that, Each and Everyone
can do something.
Following are some
of the steps that you can take to support and
promote breastfeeding:
Protect a mother's right to breastfeed in public
areas, providing private, comfortable facilities
to mothers who prefer them
Extend statutory maternity leave and support
mothers wishing to continue breastfeeding when
they return to work
Adopt recognised best practice standards, ensuring
that enough health professionals with appropriate
training are employed to support breastfeeding
mothers
Introduce effective breastfeeding education
into the student training of all health professionals
Provide banked donated breastmilk, where clinically
indicated, for babies for whom mothers' own
breastmilk is not available.
Provide infant feeding education in schools
using positive and culturally-appropriate images
of breastfeeding
Avoid materials which promote artificial feeding,
increasing parents' access to impartial information
Set targets for improved breastfeeding rates
and other standards
Provide incentives and release funds to support
the adoption of breastfeeding strategies and
policies
